Volunteers Awarded Power of 9 Honors
Jack Lemerond and Jessica Burroughs, who receive services through our Supported Living program, were nominated for their commitment and the assistance that they give to the Volunteers of America T-Ball Team. The team's players are three to six year olds with and without disabilities. Both Jack and Jessica have been assistant coaches for the past 2 years and are coaching the inclusive t-ball team again this year.
Volunteer! Baton Rouge, along with WAFB-TV Channel 9 and Capital One Bank support local heroes by honoring special volunteers each month. The award celebrates the spirit of volunteerism and puts the spotlight on the folks in our community who give freely of their time and energy to help organizations meet their missions.
Jack and Jessica will receive the Power of 9 Award at the team's end-of-the-season celebration and their story will be aired during the 6:00 pm news broadcast
of the Channel 9 news on Friday, June 26th. We are so proud of their accomplishments! _________________________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks Volunteers of America Southeast!
On September 09, 2008 Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge received a visit from Wallace Davis, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Southeast, which serves the Alabama area.
Davis was in town to bring much needed supplies to Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge in the wake of the recent hurricane.
Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge affiliate, like-wise, jumped right in after Hurricane Katrina to assist the New Orleans affiliate as well as our surrounding areas. This time, another affiliate is lending a hand to us. Wallace Davis personally came down with a moving truck filled with goods such as water, gas cans, a variety of juices, tuna, crackers, paper towels, and other consumable items. The truck unloaded at Oak Park Plaza, 947 North Bon Marche Drive, our housing facility for the elderly.
