Volunteers of America was founded nationally in 1896 with a promise "To go wherever we are needed and do whatever comes to hand" in the service of God and humanity.

On these founding values our organization has grown to be one of the largest, most diversified, and most effective faith-based charities in America, particularly in South Louisiana. We serve a 19 parish area by giving shelter to abused and neglected children and youth, support to families, comfort to the elderly and hope to the disabled.

Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge served over 98,000 people within the last year with the support of one thousand volunteers. We are a catch net for those who need us the most. We don't hand out band-aids, we find solutions.

Community Partnership Award Recipient

Capital Area United Way and its Board of Directors announced Volunteers of America as its 2007 Partnership Award recipient at its Annual meeting on March 18th.

Top Marks Received

Once again, Volunteers of America has received a four-star rating for sound fiscal management from Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator is a large, independent evaluator of charities. For over 100 years Volunteers of America has been able to maintain and provide services to the public through efficient financial judgment.

New Housing Community Is Just What The Town Ordered

The town of Oberlin, Louisiana (near Lake Charles) welcomed a new community — The Oberlin Manor Apartments. The apartments are for individuals with mental illness, who are capable of living on their own.

New Computer Lab Gives Employees and Consumers Access
